Caterpillars Were Born to Eventually Fly
It’s in their DNA. The cocooning phase isn’t pretty, but it’s worth it when they get to fly free and be what they were born to be. How we marvel at and admire this tiny but feisty creature.
I see a lot of human caterpillars who stunt their own growth to avoid the unpleasantries of the metamorphosis. Let’s face it. We don’t get a lot of support, in this society, to live our most beautiful truth.
Our current social system is, in many ways, built to keep you small. We’re taught that we’re never enough and need to keep buying stuff to give our lives purpose. We’re relentlessly inundated by the media and fearmongering news which convince us we are safer to remain tight within our insular lives. We’re raised to believe life is a competition and in order to succeed we have to be better than the other person. We’re too often told our dreams are silly. This sometimes comes from well-meaning people who are afraid we’ll get disappointed. They’re not considering how disappointed we’ll be if we never try.
We have to fear naysayers and trolls and just mean-spirited people who want to knock us down when we try to let our shine out in the world. It sucks, but many people and companies in our current reality benefit or profit from keeping us down.
If you’re an introvert, an artist, a dreamer, a highly sensitive person, you’re made to feel defective. You’re told to toughen up, push yourself more, get with the reality Sister, this is a dog eat dog world!!! You need to fit yourself into this mold or you can’t play the game.
(And we wonder why depression is so prevalent in our world.)
But what is it actually costing you, and the world, by living small and, in the illusion of, safe? Are you really satisfied to stay there? If so, by all means, live your life in the way that makes you most happy. I’m not here to judge you. But, if you’re like me, and you feel even the smallest of voices calling you to live with a little more purpose and a little more daring, then please, don’t let anything or anyone keep you down.
For me, I love Mother Earth and I happen to be pretty fond of humanity. I feel a deep need to contribute to any movement that helps improve humanity’s chances of co-existing with our beloved planet. I’d like to help take us in the direction of least destruction, to Earth, to animals, and to ourselves. It’s not an easy choice and there’s no guarantee that anything will help at this point. We might be past the point of no return. But, what I know for sure, is that if I don’t try, I’ll live and die a sad and unfulfilled person.
So, in spite of the monumental fear and the days down in the dirt licking my wounds, I need to do this work. I need to keep bringing my shine into the world in whatever way I feel called to. This is the drive behind ‘Wild Child’. If I can help you reconnect with everything that brings back your shine and makes you brave enough to step into the world and contribute more beauty, in whatever way that looks to you, then I can live and die happy.
Are you a caterpillar? What are your dreams, big and small? What do you feel called to do? What scares the bejebus out of you but excites you at the same time? What lights you up? What do you need to choose a life of daring? What would support you on this journey?
I’d LOVE to hear from you!
